| August 6, 2010 Work Completed on Nalbeelah and Humphrey Bridge Upgrade VANDERHOOF – Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad announced today that work is completed on the Nalbeelah and Humphrey Bridge upgrade. “As we see these projects coming to completion, it is a great time to reflect on the benefits of the numerous infrastructure investments our government has been making,” says Rustad. “B.C. is leading the country in job growth. Our plan is to create jobs and our plan is working.” In the previous month, B.C. gained 16,300 positions and the unemployment rate fell to 7.5%, leading the country as Canada lost jobs last month. Both bridges are located on Highway 37 with the Nalbeelah Bridge is located approximately 45.5 km and the Humphrey Bridge approximately 41 km south of the junction with Highway 16. The $524,970 investment created a new bridge surface that benefits the traveling public by providing a smooth running surface for vehicles as well as protecting the superstructure of the bridge. Since October 2008, more than $5.3 billion has been committed for accelerated capital projects across British Columbia, which is creating more than 34,000 construction jobs over the life of the projects. Across northern British Columbia alone this year, over $200 million has been committed to 70 new and ongoing highway projects that are expected to create over 1,200 jobs. This brings the total transportation investment in the North since 2001-02 to $1.5 billion. -30- | |
