Highway 16 Overhead Bridge Rehabilitation Moves To Tender

VANDERHOOF – An overhead bridge five kilometres west of Fort Fraser will undergo upgrades improving the safety of the travelling public and increasing the load capacity for industrial traffic.

“I’m really pleased to notify the public of this tender and to highlight the initiative of the Province to make improvements to our roads, particularly in the northern communities where our climate tends to erode transportation infrastructure quite rapidly,” says Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad.

This project will include an increase to the current deck width and upgrades to the road geometry, improving safety both before and on the bridge. Load capacities will be increased to the current standards to help facilitate local industry. All environmental jurisdictional guidelines will be met during this project to ensure that the local habitat remains untouched.

The contract tender date is set for October 13th, 2009. This project is expected to commence in late November, 2009. Single lane traffic will minimize traffic delays with the wait time anticipated to be no longer than 20 minutes.
