$1.3 Million Investment for Nechako Lakes

VANDERHOOF – The provincial government is providing $1,328,608 to Nechako Lakes municipalities to support local government operations and help rural, resource-based communities in these challenging economic times.

“The past year of global economic downturn has been tough on our families and our communities,” says Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad. “Our municipalities are working hard to maintain services and keep our communities afloat in these challenging times. Revenue is crucial and that is why the province is stepping in to accelerate funding for small, rural communities.”

As part of the Strategic Community Investment Fund, the breakdown of local small community grants is as follows:

District of Vanderhoof: $236,125
Village of Granisle: $228,451
District of Houston: $223,152
Village of Burns Lake: $213,546
District of Fort St. James: $175,766
Village of Fraser Lake: $175,216

In addition, the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako will receive $86,352 in its latest installment of provincial funding.

This is the second installment of the Strategic Community Investment Fund, a two-year, $232-million initiative consisting of the Traffic Fine Revenue Sharing Program and Small Community and Regional District Grants. Communities received a first payment in Spring 2009 and will receive a third payment in early 2010.

The Small Community and Regional District Grant allocation is calculated based on population and assessment.
