Volunteer Effort Improves Safety of Fraser Lake Trail
NECHAKO LAKES – A volunteer effort helped to improve safety for pedestrians along a half-kilometre walking trail in the community of Fraser Lake.
Why this matters:
- The trail connects the information kiosk to the pedestrian crossing across Highway 16 in the heart of the community.
- This work also upgraded an informal trail that starts near a housing facility for seniors and connects to the new trail.
- The new trail provides a safe walking path for the members of the community, including the seniors who live nearby.
Quote:
“It’s often the smaller projects like these that have more impact in our communities. If a short walking trail can improve accessibility while also improving people’s safety, the chances are it will make a meaningful impact within the community. I’d like to thank all the volunteers that made this project possible.”
-Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad
Additional information:
Staff from the local highway maintenance contractor, Yellowhead Road and Bridge Nechako, and volunteers from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure worked together to complete this project.
- This is one of 28 such projects around the province that are benefitting from this volunteer labour and equipment.
- Work took place on October 12th and 13th, 2011.
